991 GT3 Rumour Thread

The latest...

video appeared 30 August, depicting the black test mule GT3 we have all 'seen' previously but with sound this time. And the signature of the sound is the shifts of the PDK transmission!

The very latest 'will they or won't they' rumours regarding the availability of the PDK transmission on the 991 GT3 are now leaning towards PDK only on the 'base' model, and PDK or manual at extra cost on the RS version due 2014. A way to keep the progressives and the purists happy methinks. See the paddle shifters on the spy shot below.

Courtesy of 'Auto Guide' we have the best images yet of the 991 GT3. No real surprises with the bodywork but the shape of the re-profiled fixed rear wing is clearer.

Follow the link to a very interesting collection of GT3 rumours over at autoguide.com. Lots of contradictions, some of the usual info but with one interesting exception. A rather significant move of engine positioning to give the new GT3 a more mid-engine feel for improved balance.

The first spy shots I have seen of the 991 GT3 have surfaced at a German site 'Auto Motor und Sport'. Check
this out for some (grainy) images and an opportunity to test your German language skills. And over at WorldCarFans.com they have some limited info on the specs of the new GT3, including a potential release date of 2013. It also 'confirms' that the wingless 991 you see at the Auto Sport & Motor site is a test mule for the new GT3 mechanicals.

There is an interesting discussion over at the 'TeamSpeed' forum on customer expectations for the 991 GT3, including yet another rendering of a possible rear view of the new street-legal racer. Enjoy!

At 'Top Speed' they have had a stab at possible 991 GT3 features and an artists impression of what the new car may look like (below). All interesting speculation.

  • A fantastic new rumour has surfaced regarding the next GT3 (991 series). I found it at a site I hadn't seen before, www.GTSpirit.com. Full details can be found here.

GT3 RS 4.0 Details

Looks like the 600 unit limited production of the GT3 4.0 has one slightly second hand example following a road accident outside Nurburgring involving another Porsche and a Chevrolet. See the report at Motor Authority for details and a very sad picture of the 4.0.

Another breathless
review of the 997 GT3 RS 4.0, this time from Winding Road magazine. Do check out the accompanying video to the article, especially the sound of the 4.0 accelerating at about 2.41 into the video. Awesome sound! As great as this car seems to be, even by epic GT3 standards, it just makes you wonder what the 991 series GT3 will be like. Particularly so given the very positive reviews of the 991 Carrera S so far. I, for one, can't wait!

Anybody want a 4.0 litre 997-2 GT3RS??? How much do kidneys sell for these days?? Love those front 'dive' aero plates. And the engine, and the rear wing, and the rest quite frankly. Details from the official Porsche GT3 'microsite' here.
